Cesar Millan In April 2005 Stacy and I went to Davisburg Michigan to see Cesar Millan. So many of our clients have spoken about his books and his programs I felt it important to take the opportunity to hear him speak and participate on a professional level in Q&A’s. What I was very impressed with was Cesar donated back some of the proceeds from the speaking engagement to White Shepherd Genetic Research. Those of you that know me surely understand my appreciation for that gift.
I think the greatest take away I had from this seminar was the affirmation that the unsolicited attention that we give our dogs for the sheer fact that they draw breath is not the gift that we hope it is to the dog. Dogs need that touch, I need that touch, but the reality is dogs need more from us and I believe we have an obligation to provide all that they need to be successful in our homes. Dogs require discipline, (in the form of structure-not punishment) exercise and then affection. According to Cesar-most homes look more like Affection-Affection-Affection.
Cesar spoke of his background, his interest in animal behavior and the unbreakable bond between the dog and his owner. If you have the chance to see him it is worth it. He is but a factor in the influences in today’s training but you will find him magical and interesting.
