Tails of the Great Northwest Tails of the Great Northwest was the title of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers National Conference this year held in Portland Oregon October 24 through the 26th. The content and exposure to those pioneers who brought forward positive training principles in dog training was everything I had hoped it to be. Dr. Roger Abrantes, Teoti Anderson, Chris Bach and Ian Dunbar are some of the greats that presented this year-all authors that would add to your dog training library.
This 5 day seminar could never be summarized here but the knowledge and the exposure to new and reinforced methodologies are gifts that I received and will share with all of you in our class room setting.
At The Train Station, continuing education is our path to bringing you new and exciting ways to work with your dog and to create the companion you want for your family and your home.
The greatest take away I can share with you is start early. Puppy development is the critical foundation for learning development in dogs. If you don't choose The Train Station, find a positive puppy class that will give you and your dog the foundation skills at the critical period to lay that permanent foundation.
In older dogs-seek a trainer that speaks to you about how dogs learn. That helps you come to understand that dogs are not manipulative or vengeful-that they repeat behaviors that accomplish whatever their goal is at that time. Harvest that energy to create an animal that gives you what you are looking for happily and willingly-without fear or intimidation. Their willingness to please you is their gift-help them share it with you.
